wound healing in dolphins
Dolphins often get deep soft-tissue injuries from shark bite,
so how does wound healing occur underwater? Apparently, the blubber near the site
of the wound undergoes decomposition and releases organohalogens working as antimicrobial
substances to clean the wound.
Amazing!

Really nice paper from Katja Brückner showing a population of larval hemocytes that proliferate when in touch with the peripheral nervous system in a compartment called epidermal-muscular
pockets.

Orthologs
If looking for orthologs (human to flies to zebrafish, or vice versa), Perrimon launched a new site:
http://www.flyrnai.org/cgi-bin/DRSC_orthologs.pl
You input your favorit gene (the CG name for flies, for instance) and you get back the human (or zebrafish) ortholog.
Works really nice.

‘Model’ or ‘tool’? New definitions for translational research (by H. Sive)
Here is an interesting point of view on what can be named a "disease model" and what shouldn't. The author propose to introduce the distinction between a "model" and a "tool"
